Cool antique safety pin in solid 15 karat gold

It seems to have been gilded with remnants of the bright yellow gold visible in the crevices

and dates from the 1780s (or thereabouts) with maker's mark GS

The brooch is crafted in 9 karat gold and silver

The base displays a lovely golden hue, and the fob itself is modelled in pinchbeck and engraved with floral and foliate motifs, typical of the era. Its a great size, would look great worn on a chain and can still be used to seal letters with wax perhaps
